Asteroids, Comets, Meteors 2017

1st Circular

10-14 April 2017

Montevideo, URUGUAY

The series of conferences “Asteroids, Comets, Meteors” focuses on the research of small Solar System bodies. The series constitutes the leading international meeting in this field. The first three conferences took place in Uppsala, Sweden in the 1980's, and afterwards they were organized every ~3 years all over the world. In the last editions, a sequence was started where the conference has been held in different continents. Now, it is time to come back to South America; as it was decided in the ACM2014.

We are pleased to inform you that the organization of the next ACM in Montevideo has just started. After some exchange of opinions with SOC colleagues of previous ACMs, we have set up a Scientific Organizing Committee that tries to keep a balance between different topics, geographical distribution of colleagues in the SOC, and gender. We have also assembled a Local Organizing Committee. The integration of both committees are shown below.

Dates: Previous meetings were usually held between June-August (summer time in the Northern hemisphere). Yet, this time we have decided to move the meeting earlier in the year, The reason is twofold: first, we would like to avoid winter time in Montevideo that can be rather unpleasant (cool, windy, rainy); second, if we hold the meeting in Easter Week we may have available some university buildings because the whole week is holidays in Uruguay. Therefore, we have chosen the Easter week of 2017, namely April 10 to 14.

Venue: The meeting will be held in the Edificio Polifuncional José Luis Massera that belongs to the Universidad de la República and is located beside the Faculty of Engineering. During the semester it is usually very busy with students but, as said above, during the Easter week there is no activity, so it can be available for other academic activities. It contains a conference room with capacity for 350 people, and several smaller rooms that can accommodate over a hundred and fifty people. The building is located near the sea coast in a beautiful green area called Parque Rodó. There are several hotels and restaurants in the surroundings within walking distances. Furthermore, Montevideo downtown is located at only ten minutes drive, where there are many more options for accommodation and restaurants. There are several bus lines connecting downtown with Parque Rodó. There will be also available for lunch the canteen of the Faculty of Engineering.

For those interested in attending the ACM 2017, please, fill the form with your personal data. Provide us a tentative title of your contribution and/or the subject you are working on. (click here)

Funds are very limited, so we expect to cover some accommodation expenses for graduate students and recent PhDs; and  it will be possible to waive the registration fee for some people needing some assistance
