Restaurants close to the conference and the area of hotels
I made a detail gastronomic research for restaurants in the area.
Attached is a plot of nearby restaurants, with more restaurants than the link.
Following are my comments about the restaurants I have some information:
- Francis & La Perdiz. the most expensive ones, but very good. It should cost ~50 USD per person, including wine.
- Uruguay Natural - very good meat (~40 USD)
- Da Pentella – very good pasta (~40 USD)
- Terracota & Ros y Mora & El Santo & Sacramento – very good meat (~35 USD)
- El Viejo y el Mar & Punta Pocitos- nice places in the Rambla (~35 USD)
- Some other good alternatives (that I have tried before): El Tigre, La Parrillita, La Parrilla, Dakota Steakhouse & El Berretin (have a look to the tunnel connecting to the jail). All these ones are good “parrilladas” (barbecues) (~30 USD), but they also have other dishes.
- Other “parrilladas” of little less quality, but still good: El Lobo, Punta Sur, La Criolla. (~25 USD)
- Viejo Almacén & La Mandolina – a variety of dishes of good quality (~25 USD)
- Mamma Nostra – good pasta (~30 USD)
- La Estacada – fish and seafood, nice place during the day (~25 USD)
- La Lupita - Mexican food with Uruguayan taste (not too hot). (~25 USD)
- Sakura & Naru Sushi – Sushi food (~25 USD)
- Los Soprano's (nice view of the bay) and Rodelu. Food reasonably good (~20 USD).
- Tiqui-Taca & ChiviPizza & Man vs Food – Good “chivitos” (sandwich with meat and a lot of stuff) (~15 USD).
- La Taberna del Diablo – Good “empanadas” (pastry filled with a lot of different stuff) (2 USD each).
- Don Ciccio & Il Mondo della Pizza & Chez Piñeiro – Good pizza, ask for mozzarella if you want pizza+cheese. Try also “fainá”. (~15 USD).
- The Sheraton Hotel in the Punta Carretas Shopping has also an expensive restaurant (Las Carretas). I have never been there.
- Outside the Punta Carretas Shopping (a jail transformed into a mall), you can find Mc Donald’s and Burger’s King. In the 3rd floor of the mall there is a food court with several options.
- For craft beers, you have Mastra Beer with a variety of tastes. For several sort of drinks, One Love.
Some sweet options: Icecream: La Cigalle, Fredo’s, Las Delicias; pies and coffee: Cantegrill & Café Martínez & Havanna (frappe and “alfajores”). There are a lot of bakeries with very good “bizcochos” (sweet and salty).
Some options outside the map:
- Pantagruel (Obligado 1199 and Maldonado) – Elaborated dishes
- Rara Avis (Buenos Aires 652 just aside Solis Theatre) – The most expensive restaurant in town.
- Mercado del Puerto (In front of Montevideo harbor, downtown) – Many restaurants with barbecues full of meat
